Conn New Wonder II Silver Nickel Alto Sax 166xxx Pearls Nail File Chu Used

Conn New Wonder II alto, serial # 166xxx from 1925. Chu Berry’ type with rolled tone holes, nail file G#, 9 pearls plus the thumb rest and 5 pearl rollers. 98% silver remains with wear to lower thumb rest and lower palm key area. I was surprised that it plays as well as it does with just a few tweeks of the octave key on the neck. The key bar has been mended along with soldering of the posts but it will work as is. The body has a crease dent below the strap ring and a dent in the bow bottom but the rest is fine with a good bell and all the keys seem straight and work well enough, Bb pinky key bent down slightly. It will need new pads but these will play (a bit of leaking on the lower notes – these are very old pads) and will need some springs as seen from the very old elastic holding 4 keys down (this is why I was amazed it played) Falsetto came easily for me on this horn and I usually have trouble with it. May have been gold inside but looks only faint now. Nicely engraved bell with zigzag leaves. All guards are good with just light bends, no re-soldering. No top end cap, will need a neck screw, no neck strap or mouthpiece included. Could be good for marching season and with a little work might be fine for concert season. Original Conn case included but rough shape on the back edges and corners where someone added metal braces outside. All three clasps work and doesn’t look bad from certain angles.
